Learning and Living the Gospel #2 First Vision

A depiction by Gary L. Kapp of Joseph Smith sitting on the ground in the Sacred Grove, looking up to see Jesus Christ and Heavenly Father instructing him.

This week at Girl's Activity Days we made a flannel board story for Family Home Evening.  When Joseph Smith didn't know which church to go to, he said a  prayer in a grove of trees.  Jesus and Heavenly Father appeared.  He wasn't supposed to go to any of the churches.  He would be taught the gospel and restore the church on Earth again.

Heavenly Father answers our prayers.  I know that is true because he answers my prayers every day.  For example, today.  I said a prayer that we would do well on our battle of the books.  And we only lost by 2 books.  He helped me be calm and helped me remember the things that I had studied and read.

Learning and Living the Gospel #4 Listen to the Prophet about Service--Hair Donation

President Monson is the prophet.  He tells us what Heavenly Father wants us to know.  He wants us to serve.  I can follow the prophet by looking for ways to serve others.
My hair was getting very long and I wanted to cut it.  I decided to let it grow a little longer so I could donate it to Locks of Love.  They make wigs for kids who have cancer and have lost their hair.  It made me happy to think that someone would be able to have hair if I cut mine and gave it to them.

Developing Talents #9 Modest Dress--Learning to Sew

I got a sewing machine for Christmas and I love it.  My mom says it's important to learn how to sew because sometimes it's hard to find clothes that are modest and you need to know how to make alterations to clothes.  When I get older and want to go to a dance, I might not be able to find a modest dress and I might have to sew some extra fabric on it.  I will learn how to follow patterns and how to use my sewing machine.

Serving Others #6 Practice Good Manners

At Activity Days we learned about manners.  Sariah, Eliza, Abby and I had a chocolate milk party.  We practiced our manners.  Some of the good manners at the table are, feet on the floor, no elbows on the table, use your utensils, wait until everyone is ready before you eat, use polite words like "thank you, please, you're welcome".
It's important to use good manners so the person who made the food knows that you appreciate what they did.

Tithing

I love tithing.  I like it because we can help others.  I earn money to pay for tithing by doing chores I earn one dollar a day.  I also earn money by selling bunnies. My family earns 40-60 dollars.  I love paying tithing.

Serving Others #3 Qualities I Like in a Person and Want to Develop

  • Make a list of the qualities you like in a person. Choose one quality to develop in yourself. Discuss how showing respect and kindness strengthens you, your family, and others.
I chose my mom for the qualities I like in a person.  I chose her because she is a great singer, she is also kind, and helpful. I want to be just like her.  I like every thing about her.
I think showing respect  and kindness helps strengthens me, my family and others because you feel great.  If you want to think of it this way think of it just like a service.

Learning & Living the Gospel Goal #1 The Sacrament/Baptism Covenants

I taught our Family Home Evening Lesson about how the Sacrament helps us renew our baptism covenants.
We promise to take upon us the name of His son, always remember Him, and keep His commandments.  He promises us that we can always have His spirit to be with us, we can have membership in His church, we can be forgiven of our sins, and we can live with Heavenly Father again.  I'm grateful that I was baptized and glad that I can renew my promises every time I take the sacrament.
